Because as impressive as the dunes of Sossusvlei or the elephants of Etosha are, your adventure in Namibia can't really begin without good preparation.<\/p><p>In this checklist, we go over everything you should think about before you leave: from your passport and visa to your driver's license and vaccinations. Please note: your national ID card is not sufficient.<\/p><p>Your passport must also have <strong>at least three blank pages that face each other<\/strong>. These are needed for the visa as well as for entry and exit stamps. We recommend this, as it can help avoid extra fees upon arrival.<\/p><p>The visa currently costs <strong>1600 NAD (about 84 \u20ac)<\/strong>.<\/p><p>Important: <strong>print your visa and take it with you<\/strong>. Upon your arrival in Namibia, you'll need to present this document to the immigration service.<\/p><\/div>\n\t                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"tb-wysiwyg tb-block align-left background-light pattern-none variant-none tb-collapsible-margins\" id=\"wysiwyg-4\">\n    <div class=\"inner-block\">\n        <div class=\"tb-wysiwyg__inner\">\n            <div class=\"inner-block\">\n                                <div class=\"text-part wysiwyg\">\n                                                                    <h3>Request the \u201cvisa on arrival\u201d upon arrival.<\/h3>                                        \t\t<div class=\"translation-block\"><p>You can also pay for your visa directly at the airport upon arrival. The process usually goes smoothly, but it may take a bit longer depending on the queue.<\/p><p>The cost is <strong>2000 NAD per person<\/strong>, including a service fee of <strong>400 NAD (about \u20ac104)<\/strong>.<\/p><\/div>\n\t                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"tb-wysiwyg tb-block align-left background-light pattern-none variant-none tb-collapsible-margins\" id=\"wysiwyg-5\">\n    <div class=\"inner-block\">\n        <div class=\"tb-wysiwyg__inner\">\n            <div class=\"inner-block\">\n                                <div class=\"text-part wysiwyg\">\n                                                                    <h3>Necessary documents for the visa application<\/h3>                                        \t\t<div class=\"translation-block\"><p>For your visa, you'll need a few documents. Some of these will be provided automatically if you're traveling with <a href=\"https:\/\/namibianomads.com\/en\/\"><strong>Namibia Nomads<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p><p>\u2705 Travel itinerary<br>\u2705 Proof of return flight (ticket number or booking reference)<\/p><p>If you booked through <a href=\"https:\/\/namibianomads.com\/en\/\">Namibia Nomads<\/a>, you'll receive:<\/p><ul><li>the itinerary about <strong>2 months before departure<\/strong>,<\/li><li>the <strong>e-tickets about 30 days before departure<\/strong> via email.<\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\t                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"tb-wysiwyg tb-block align-left background-light pattern-none variant-none tb-collapsible-margins\" id=\"wysiwyg-6\">\n    <div class=\"inner-block\">\n        <div class=\"tb-wysiwyg__inner\">\n            <div class=\"inner-block\">\n                                <div class=\"text-part wysiwyg\">\n                                            <h2>What to respond to the question \u201cmoney on arrival\u201d?<\/h2>                                                                \t\t<div class=\"translation-block\"><p>When applying for a visa, you may be asked a question regarding <strong>\u201cmoney on arrival\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p><p>Our rangers typically don\u2019t bring Namibian dollars from Belgium, as you can almost always pay by card on-site and there are plenty of ATMs. So, you can confidently answer <strong>\u201cno\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p><p>What they actually want to know is whether you have <strong>sufficient financial means during your stay<\/strong> (cash, debit card, or credit card). No specific amount is required, and no official documents need to be presented. So far, this has never been checked upon arrival.<\/p><\/div>\n\t                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"tb-wysiwyg tb-block align-left background-light pattern-none variant-none tb-collapsible-margins\" id=\"wysiwyg-7\">\n    <div class=\"inner-block\">\n        <div class=\"tb-wysiwyg__inner\">\n            <div class=\"inner-block\">\n                                <div class=\"text-part wysiwyg\">\n                                                                                                            \t\t<div class=\"translation-block\"><p>\ud83d\udca1 <strong>Did you accidentally apply for a Holiday Visa?<\/strong><\/p><p>No worries. Some travelers consciously or unconsciously choose the <strong>\"Holiday Visa\"<\/strong>. This is generally intended for a longer stay (<strong>more than 30 days<\/strong>), but it is also valid for shorter trips.<\/p><p>It is often a bit cheaper than a Visa on Arrival, but the application process is more complicated. For example, you will be asked for:<\/p><ul><li>travel and medical insurance<\/li><li>proof of sufficient financial means (like a payslip)<\/li><li>confirmation of your place of stay (such as a hotel reservation)<\/li><\/ul><p>Our advice: <strong>opt for the Visa on Arrival upon arrival<\/strong>. This applies to almost all European travelers, whether you have a Belgian, Dutch, French, or German license.<\/p><p>Although some official sources (like the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) state that a national license is sufficient, experience shows that the Namibian police often explicitly request a translation.<\/p><p>Why? Because local police don't always know how to read a European license. If they don't understand it, they might issue a fine. An English license helps avoid disputes, delays, and unexpected costs.<\/p><p>You have two safe options:<\/p><\/div>\n\t                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"tb-wysiwyg tb-block align-left background-light pattern-none variant-none tb-collapsible-margins\" id=\"wysiwyg-9\">\n    <div class=\"inner-block\">\n        <div class=\"tb-wysiwyg__inner\">\n            <div class=\"inner-block\">\n                                <div class=\"text-part wysiwyg\">\n                                                                    <h3>Apply for an international driving permit<\/h3>                                        \t\t<div class=\"translation-block\"><p>It\u2019s an official document that complements your license and is translated into several languages, including English. The place to request it depends on the country where you reside.<\/p><p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n\t                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"tb-wysiwyg tb-block align-left background-light pattern-none variant-none tb-collapsible-margins\" id=\"wysiwyg-10\">\n    <div class=\"inner-block\">\n        <div class=\"tb-wysiwyg__inner\">\n            <div class=\"inner-block\">\n                                <div class=\"text-part wysiwyg\">\n                                                                    <h3>Have a certified translation done of your national license.<\/h3>                                        \t\t<div class=\"translation-block\"><p>This can be easily done online through an accredited translation service.
